What does everyone think of John Deere's two wheel drive tractors? I'm looking at one that is a model power shift with about hours. If it hasn't been overhauled I expect it will need an engine overhaul soon.

I have no problem with JD at all, I would just use some caution. Also, I have heard from some farmers, that these higher HP 2wd units have a problem getting all that power to the ground, without MFWD. You currently have 0 posts. It all depends on the price. I'd be looking at the oil filter side of the engine - see if the oil is coming out between the head and block - lot of guys say this is a sign of a head gasket coming up on quitting time.

Too much space or gear between clutch packs. But, If you are going to just use it for minimal pulling it will work just fine.
The engines are bulletproof if maintained. If I'm not mistaken, it was the first full power shift JD used. Yes, they are one of the roughest shifters around, they didn't think too much of hydraulic pressure modulation back then, they just wanted it to shift, without the clutch. And that's what they do!
